Groups & Brackets Tutorial

U10B Division Page

Clicking on the "Boys" "U10" link will bring up the U10B page, which will be used for most of this example. In addition to the header, the navigation bar, print button, and schedule, the U10B page includes a bracket for showing single elimination games, group standings, and a description of group ranking criteria.

The Single Elimination Bracket section example shows two semifinal games which match each group winner with the second place team in the other group, with the semifinal winners meeting in the finals.

The Schedule section is always present. It lists all games within the division. Each line includes the Game #, the date/time of the match, the location, the opponents, and a results/notes field. Clicking the Location field may bring up details of the venue.

The Group section lists all groups and the current standings. Details will be covered in later pages.

The last section describes the criteria used to rank each group. In this case, a 10 point system is used, with 6 points for a win and 3 points for a tie, with 1 point per goal up to 3, and 1 point for a shutout. If teams are tied on points, then head-to-head, least goals allowed, goal differential, lower red card count, and, if necessary, a coin flip are used to rank the teams.

GAB has been use to track several tournaments and although the ranking criteria for each tournament were very similar, none were identical. THe latest version of GAB can be configured to use any combination of points, either a 10 point or 3 point system, shutout points (10 point scoring only), goal differential, goal allowed, goals scored, red card count, yellow card count shutout count, PKs/KFTM, and coin flip.
