Tournament Schedules & Results

This site is available for all school soccer tournaments at no cost. Using it makes it easy to tournament results online quickly. Many tournament operations, such as ranking groups, are performed automatically.

Tutorial Videos

I have added some videos showing how to use the site. Tutorial Videos, including Game Reporting.

2020 Tournaments

I'm not actively promoting the site but it is available on request.

2019 Tournaments

2018 Tournaments

2018 lost a couple of tournaments from last year, and picked up one from Georgia.

2018 G&B Tournaments

131 teams, 14 divisions, 216 games in 7 G&B tournaments. Hover over tournament for details.

Tracked 2018 Tournaments

78 teams, 8 divisions, 130 games in 3 G&B tournaments. Hover over tournament for details.

One of largest 2017 tournaments, Southern Shootout, moved to a commercial site, SincSports. This is a much more comprehensive tournament site but it does cost to use. One of last year's tracked tournaments had a much improved site this year, 2018 Buccaneer's Bash. I suspect that this site would be easier to use, but their 2018 site looks good.

Two tournament directors did not report scores. I think it's easier to report a game result than it is to send a email, but they preferred using email. This resulted in much worse report times. Next year there wil be "terms of service". The site will still be free, but directors must be able to login and must report scores directly.

2017 G&B Tournaments

Fewer tournaments used the site in 2017. A few of the 2016 tournaments were not scheduled in 2017. And, while I don't think any coach who has used the system has not wanted to use it again, a number of coaches who were big supporters have moved on to different schools. One moved on to a college coaching post.

173 teams, 19 divisions, 296 games in 7 G&B tournaments. Hover over tournament for details.

Tracked 2017 Tournaments

61 teams, 10 divisions, 94 games in 5 G&B tournaments. Hover over tournament for details.

2016 Review

Almost all of the 2015 G&B tournaments used the site this year. Two 2015 tournaments did not have a 2016 tournament. One tournament set up their own web site for the Girls divisions though the Boys used this site. Two tournaments used the site for the first time. One tournament was rained out in 2015 but was played in 2016, so G&B was used for 13 tournaments.

2016 G&B Tournaments

258 teams, 38 divisions, 438 games in 13 G&B tournaments. Hover over tournament for details.

Although the number of tournaments using the site did not grow as much as I hoped, the number of users, sessions, and pageviews was up by about 60%, compared to 2015. This varied a lot between tournaments. More teams = more traffic, but another major factor was how users learned about the site. Sites that already had a team web site with a link pointing to the G&B page generated a lot more traffic than those that didn't. One had a link to the 2016 schedule/results described as "Past Results". 2015 results are available though there is no current link. I have added links to previous years' results for some tournaments. ( I have six years (2009, 2011,2013-2016) results for one tournament though a few of the older ones are incomplete.)

Many tournaments did a pretty good job of getting results posted quickly, some averaging less than 20 minutes after the game. There were a couple of tournaments that did not work. The website and tournament software worked well, but there were some communication problems that delayed updated schedules and results for hours. In one tournament the director was emailing me game results and I started having 4-6 hour delays in email on that account. Using a different email account helped, but having tournament personnel enter the results into the website would be even better. I always encourage directors to use this capability (and to solicit help to enter results), but I need to provide some training that shows how easy it is. In another tournament, I was working with an one person for the tournament setup but did not know that someone else was the director. The director knew about the site but did not know that he could get an account and work with it directly. He had to reschedule late Friday and Saturday games due to weather and I didn't get the updated schedule or results until Sunday.

I won't get into details here, but I have some ideas as to how to avoid similar problems in the future. Part of this involves improving the site/software and part involves producing easy to use training on the capabilities. A Report page optimized for phones is planned. Please send any suggestions, questions, or comments to tom@soccer-tournament.us. You can also use the "Contact" button at the bottom of most tournament pages.

The 2015 Birmingham Metro included both boys and girls divisions. The Birmingham Metro Boys used the site this year, but Birmingham Metro Girls Tournament set up their own site. The new site looks good and supports other aspects of a tournament such as players stats, but it does not provide as much information as a G&B tournament page. Pool (Division) Standings are reported showing only Points and not any tiebreakers, games played/scheduled, or win/loss/tie records. One of the Reasons Not to Use Groups & Brackets is "We're using better software". I don't think the current Girls Metro site is better functionally. Individual game results, team and pool (division) schedules are not available. It is possible to include G&B Brackets, Schedules and/or Standings in another web site if iframes are supported. Each team played 6 games over 3 months so quick reporting is not as important as in a two day tournament with the second day schedule dependent on the first day results.

2016 Tracked Tournaments - Using Public Schedule and Results

"Tracked Tournaments" use a public schedule and results in a G&B page without the explicit cooperation of the tournament organizers. This shows what the tournament would look like if it used G&B and sometimes potential improvements are identified.

23 teams, in 3 divisions, played 42 games in 2 tracked tournaments.

Altogether G&B was used in 15 tournaments. 281 teams (41 divisions) played 480 games in all tournaments/events.

2015 Review

This site saw a big boost in usage in 2015. It was used for 12 tournaments, from Huntsville to Orange Beach, with 32 divisions, 239 teams, and 410 games. Teams from 93 different schools played in G&B tournaments. This included 81 varsity boys, 68 varsity girls, 21 JV boys, and 11 JV girls teams. 26 varsity boys, 25 varsity girls, and 4 JV boys teams played in more than one G&B tournament. Feedback was fairly good and I think most of the tournaments will use the site in the future.

2015 G&B Tournaments

241 teams, 32 divisions, 410 games in 12 G&B tournaments. Hover over tournament for details. (Many teams played in more than one tournament.)

11/21 : GHS 3x3 A late fall 3x3 tournament that is not included in stats.

2015 Tracked Tournaments - Using Public Schedule and Results

"Tracked Tournaments" use a public schedule and results in a G&B page without the explicit cooperation of the tournament organizers. This shows what the tournament would look like if it used G&B and sometimes potential improvements are identified.

86 teams, in 9 divisions, played 130 games in 6 tracked tournaments.

Altogether G&B was used in 18 tournaments. 327 teams (41 divisions) played 540 games in all tournaments/events.

Groups & Brackets

"Groups & Brackets" simplifies reporting and displaying soccer tournament results. It was developed at grissomsoccer.com for Grissom events, but other high school soccer tournaments can use it at no cost.

Tournament Builder

"Tournament Builder" is a recent development that makes it easy to configure a soccer tournament. Although it is targeted at G&B tournaments it can be used to schedule other tournaments. THe demo pages support instant upload of tournament parameters including divisions, teams, location, colors, and schedule. Videos of different builds are available on the "Tournament Builder" page.

Demo Tournaments

Access controls are turned off so that users can report scores and see how the group standings and single elimination brackets are updated.
Rumble11 A multi-division tournament with 4 girls divisions and 3 boys divisions. Two divisions, U10B and U12G, include single elimination brackets.
Demo Includes the option to redefine ranking criteria. This Demo has game results for all but two group games, so it's a lot easier to see how the single elimination bracket updates when the last two games are entered.
Euro 12 Uses national team names playing a 4 day tournament at John Hunt. This demo uses three 4 team groups, with the top two teams from each group and two wild card teams moving on to quarterfinals.
Euro 13 Identical to Euro JH '12 with most group games complete. Group A is complete and entering three game results will wrap up Groups B and C, filling in the matchups in the quarterfinals. Euro 14 and Euro 15 are identical. Ranking criteria may be changed.
JV01 Based on a local JV tournament, with both girls and boys divisions. Includes semifinal games and a third place game.
JV02 Identical to the JV01 demonstration with game results already entered. Adding results for the last group game in JV Women or the last two group games in JV Men will populate the single elimination bracket.
